Supplements to Incomplete Text on Qu Gu Shi Qi of Mawangdui Silk Text:A Comparison with Che Gu Shi Qi of Bamboo Slips of the Han Dynasty from Zhangjiashan
The Mawangdui silk text of Qu Gu Shi Qi(《去谷食气》Removing Grains and Drawing in Qi)is an important document that records the method of abstinence from grains and nourishing qi during the Warring States,Qin,and Han periods.Unfortunately, many parts of the text are missing. The recently published Che Gu Shi Qi(《彻谷食气》Eliminating Grains and Drawing in Qi),bamboo slips of the Han Dynasty from Zhangjiashan is remarkably similar to the latter half of the Mawangdui silk text of Qu Gu Shi Qi.The former has a better-preserved content, which can supplement the missing text of the latter and provide clues for the restoration of the silk text fragments. This article compares the two texts and reveals that there are errors in the restoration of the fragment and some missing text of Qu Gu Shi Qi.Additionally, some original missing text from the silk text is restored, and certain characters and terms are explained.
