Jia Bao's tomb inscription is a unique, complete and beautifully written epitaph of the Pingcheng period of the Northern Wei Dynasty rarely found in Datong in recent years, whose excavation helps us to further trace the far-reaching impact on the institutions, cultural inheritance,Buddhism and calligraphy in the middle and the late Northern Wei Dynasty after the scholars and people of Liangzhou moved eastward to Pingcheng in the fifth year of Taiyan in the Northern Wei Dynasty(439).Meanwhile,the calligraphy of Jia Bao's tomb inscription can be regarded as the representative work of engraved calligraphy in the Pingcheng period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, showing the transition from"Wei Tablet of Pingcheng"to"Wei Tablet of Luoyang",which plays an exemplary role in the study of the evolution of Wei tablets.
