The writing time of Yungang statue inscriptions covers the Pingcheng period of the Northern Wei dynasty,Luoyang period and the Eastern and Western Wei dynasty.The writing is simple,vigorous,strong and thick.It has the typical characteristics of Pingcheng Wei stele calligraphic style and is an important part of Pingcheng Wei stele calligraphy.The inscriptions ofYungang statues mostly have the image of official script,an ancient style of calligraphy in the Han dynasty.The strokes are round,thick and plain,primitive and simple,and have a unique artistic style,which can be regarded as the representative of"round stroke Wei stele calligraphy".Together with the Longmen inscriptions,the representative of"square stroke Wei stele calligraphy",it forms the"round stroke"and"square stroke"system of Wei stele calligraphy.
