With the rise of Xianbei ethnic group of Tuoba tribe,the establishment of the regime of Northern Wei dynasty,the uni-fication of the north,and along with the assistance of government,the inter-marriage saw an unprecedented development.It was of three kinds.The political inter-marriage(peace-making marriage)sought temporary allies for the Tuoba tribe,making it stand out in the north;inter-marriage between the high social classes helped to expand the basis of rule,favorable for the stability of the Northern Wei regime and lastly,came the intermarriage between the folks of different tribes resulted from the legitimacy decreed by Emperor Xiaowen.In Pingcheng,inter-marriage was commonplace,which enhanced the ethnic integration.Hence a new Chinese nation oc-curred afterwards.
