Cave 39 is one of the eight existing central tower pillar caves in Yungang Grottoes,which was later excavated.Its grotto shape,grotto door decoration,grotto top flat base,statue,modeling style and expression techniques are different from other central tower pillar grottoes.The central tower pillar of Cave 39 is the largest and well preserved Chinese traditional attic tower which is an important reference for the understanding of the style of the wooden pagoda in the Northern Wei dynasty.It is unique in that it is a cave with the theme of Buddhist nirvana.
