The epitaph in Northern Wei Dynasty enjoys a lasting reputation in the field of calligraphy for its unique style,and Zhang Xuan's Epitaph is highly concerned for its precious artistic value.This paper discusses its aesthetic thoughts and values from the aspects of technique of writing,font structure and overall arrangement.This is of great significance for the understanding of in-heritance and evolution of the epitaph in Northern Wei dynasty and the overall understanding of the calligraphy history of the South-ern and Northern Dynasty.Meanwhile,it will inspire the innovation of contemporary art forms and methods of calligraphy.
