The featured column"Research on Yungang Culture and Grotto Art"of Social Science Edition of Journal of Shanxi Datong University and the quarterly Yungang Research cover research on Yungang Grottoes,the history and culture of the Northern Wei dynasty,ancient architectural murals and its surrounding areas,inscriptions in tombs and folk customs and folk arts in Datong,etc.Based on the grottoes,but not limited to the grottoes themselves,both maintain the generalized sense of Yungang culture research.The time ranges from the Northern Wei dynasty to the present,with the space ranging from Wuzhou Mountain in Yungang to Datong and even Northern China,forming a more reasonable research system and basically having the rudiment of Yungangology.Starting from the perspective of interaction between discipline construction and academic journals,the paper summarizes previous research achievements,sorts out the knowledge pedigree of"Yungangology"and explores the context of discipline development so as to make"Yungangology"professional and disciplinary.
