Applications of Atomic Force Microscopy in Hydrated-Salt Phase Change Materials
As energy storage materials for latent heat storage technology, hydrated salt phase change mate-rials(PCM)have shown broad application prospects in the fields of thermal management in buildings,bat-teries,microelectronics,hyperthermia and so on.Atomic force microscopy(AFM)has provided a power-ful technology for nanoscale topographical, nanomechanical, and other performance imaging on the sur-faces of hydrated-salt PCM.This is helpful to track and reveal the thermophysical properties evolution on the surface in situ at the nanoscale, and improve cyclic stability of the materials from the root. This paper re-views some applications of AFM in the study of hydrated-salt PCM.As the premise and basis of AFM char-acterization,the accurate preparation of hydrated salt phase change materials is first introduced. The appli-cations of AFM morphology characterization and quantitative nanomechanical imaging in hydrate salt sur-face evolution, eutectic point confirmation, nanoscale phase separation, and polymer recombination are discussed. The main development trends and directions for the future are prospective.
