Determination of molybdenum and zirconium in uranium-molybdenum-zirconium alloy by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry
Uranium-molybdenum-zirconium alloy is a kind of new metal nuclear fuel, and it is developed based on the uranium-molybdenum alloy. The contents of molybdenum and zirconium plays an important role in the design of metal fuel.In this paper, the determination of molybdenum and zirconium in uranium-molybdenum-zirconium alloy by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry(XRF)was discussed. It was found that the measurement value of molybdenum gradually decreased with the increase of nitric acid concentration in the solution. The determination results of zirconium had certain fluctuation, and there was no phenomenon of monotone decreasing or monotone increasing. Therefore, the influence of nitric acid was eliminated by evaporating the solution followed by addition of water to dissolve the sample. The spectral line interference of uranium on molybdenum and zirconium was discussed. The resolving power of LiF200 and LiF220 crys-tals in Mo Kα spectral line affected by U Lβ1 was investigated, and LiF220 crystal was selected as the anal-ysis crystal. The linear range of calibration curve of molybdenum was 160-500 μg/mL,and the linear range of calibration curve of zirconium was 20-250 μg/mL.The precision and recovery tests of molybdenum and zirconium were conducted according to the experimental method. The relative standard deviation(RSD,n=6)of determination results was 1.1%and 7.4%,respectively.The recoveries for molybdenum and zir-conium were 99.2%-100.4%and 99.1%-100.6%,respectively.
