Structure Analysis of Silicone Epoxy Coating Films Irradiated by γ-Ray
The high-dose γ-radiation with total irradiation dose of 5×107 Gy and rate of 11 Gy/s was carried out by self-de-veloped epoxy resin(EP)and silicone epoxy resin(SiEP)coating film. The mechanical properties and adhesion of EP and SiEP were tested before and after irradiation. The structural changes on both the surface and subsurface layers of the paint films of EP and SiEP samples under the irradiation conditions were compared and analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The results indicate that the flexibility, impact, hardness, wear resistance, and adhesion performance of the irradiated EP have severely degraded, while the relevant properties of SiEP remain unchanged. Both EP and SiEP coating films turn yellow after irradiation, and analysis sug-gests that yellowing is related to the oxidation of paint surface.By comparing the FTIR spectra of the SiEP coating samples before and after irradiation, the stable Si—O bond maybe the main reason why the mechanical and adhesive properties of SiEP did not change significantly.
