Relocation of Linzhou during the Reign of Emperor Renzong of Song
After Li Yuanhao of Western Xia ascended to the throne,he harbored disloyal intentions and actively prepared for invading Song by strengthening military readiness. In the first year of Baoyuan of Northern Song(1038),Li Yuanhao built an altar and accepted the imperial edict, claiming himself as emperor and openly oppo-sing the Song court.Lin,Fu,and Feng three states, located in the northwest corner of the Song court and border-ing Khitan to the north and Western Xia to the west, guarded the gateway to Hedong Road and became an important part in the Song court's resistance against Western Xia's aggression. Both sides were engaged in fierce competition in this area. With the fall of Ningyuan Zhai and Fengzhou, there arose a proposition within the court to abandon the original Linzhou and relocate elsewhere. After debates among ministers, considerations of military situations and e-conomic factors, and the personal perseverance of Emperor Renzong of Song,Linzhou was ultimately preserved.
