Evaluation on the Growth Status of Five Ornamental Grasses in Yulin
Ornamental grasses have become new landscape materials in modern gardening,possessing excellent landscape effects and strong adaptability.In this study,5 kinds of ornamental grasses introduced in Yulin were studied:flame switchgrass(Panicum virgatum),blue leaf switchgrass(Panicum virgatum'Lanji'),heavy metal switchgrass(Panicum virgatum L),purple Pennisetum(Pennisetum alopecuroides)and(Pennisetum orientale'Tall')were observed and compared.The results show that the five ornamental grasses begin to recover from April,and the flowering period is distributed from June to November.The inflorescences of heavy metal switchgrass are longer and its flowering period is also longer.The inflorescences of Pennisetum orientale'Tall'are longer and more aesthetically pleasing.A comprehensive comparison shows that all five types of ornamental grasses grow well.Among them,Pennisetum orientale'Tall'performs the best in terms of appearance and the length of the flowering period.Next,blue leaf switchgrass(Panicum virgatum'Lanji')is relatively unique.Then,flame switchgrass,heavy metal switchgrass and purple Pennisetum also perform quite well.All of them are worthy of being planted and popularized in Yulin.It is expected to provide reference for ecological governance and garden planning in Yulin in the future.
