Finite Element Analysis of Elliptical Hollow Soft Particle Stacking Structure
This paper used COMSOL finite element software to simulate and analysis the stacking structure formed by the free fall of elliptical hollow soft particles.Three essential parameters are used to describe soft particles'stacking structure:filling fraction ρ,radial distribution function g(r)and coordination number n.The filling fraction ρ of the stacking structure has a non-monotonic relationship with the aspect ratio η.At the same time, reducing the modulus of soft particles can monotonically increase the filling fraction. The sharp peaks of the function g(r)exhibit a correlation of shifting left as the aspect ratio ηincreases. The orientation of circular soft particles with aspect ratios(η=1.0)is disordered. In contrast, the direction of elliptical soft particles with aspect ratios(η ≠ 1.0)is orderly, and most long and half axes of soft particles tend to be horizontal. This study contributes to improving the understanding of the geometric and topological properties of soft material stacking structures such as cells, and provides a computational basis for analyzing living tissues and materials such as soft spherical shells.
