Between the Virtual and the Real:Cultural Imagination and Knowledge Recognition of"Zhaiji"(瘵疾)in the Song and Yuan Dynasties
As a kind of disease name that appeared widely in the Song and Yuan Dynasties,"Zhaiji"(瘵疾)presents different theoretical explanations and descriptions in secular medical books,literary notes and Taoist literature,representing the understanding and imagination of different groups in song and Yuan Dynasties.From the perspective of knowledge history,this paper discusses the formation of the concept of"Zhaiji"(瘵疾)and its circulation and shaping in daily life and religious life in the song and Yuan Dynasties.It can be found that in medical books,it is the aggravation of human body virtual damage,and the result of virtual damage is that the patient's body eventually becomes a pathogen to spread infectious disease outward;In literature,disease developed from"Zhaiji"(瘵疾)to emotional disease,becoming a cultural image for literati to show their own ideas or needs;The Taoist literature has absorbed the knowledge of"Zhaiji"(疾)in medical books,and has carried out popularization and theological transformation.The diseases have become the result of the body being eroded by"Shichong"(尸虫),as well as the means by which the ghosts revenge on the living.The interaction of the three kinds of documents together shaped the understanding,imagination and response of different groups in the Song and Yuan Dynasties to the"Zhaiji"(瘵疾).
