1910年发表的《弗莱克斯纳报告》是美国医学教育发展史上具有里程碑意义的一份报告.学界普遍认为,卡内基教学促进会委托弗莱克斯纳调研美国医学教育,《弗莱克斯纳报告》进而确立了美国医学教育的发展方向,推动了美国现代医学教育改革,使美国医学教育后来居上,成为20世纪的世界医学教育中心.然而,经重考史料发现,卡内基教学促进会并非《弗莱克斯纳报告》的最初促成因素,20世纪初的美国医学教育改革也并非单一因素造就,而是多重力量共同作用的结果.为此,本文试论该报告产生的真实原委和它对美国医学教育产生影响的路径及其背后渊源.
A Reexamination of the Flexner Report
The Flexner Report published in 1910 was a landmark report in the history of the development of medical education in the United States.Academic circles generally believe that the Carnegie Association for the Advancement of Teaching commissioned Flexner to investigate American medical education.Then the Flexner Report established the development direction of American medical education,promoted its reform to modernization,enabled it to catch up from behind,and became the world's medical education center in the 20th century.However,a re-examination of historical data revealed that the Carnegie Association for the Advancement of Teaching was not the original cause of the Flexner Report,and the reform of American medical education in the early 20th century was not the result of a single factor,but the outcome of a combination of forces.To this end,this article will try to discuss the true origin of the report and the pathway and origin behind its impact on American medical education.
