The Diagnostic Value of Strain Elastography Combined with Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound for Benign and Malignant Tumors of the Parotid Gland
Objective To explore the diagnostic value of strain elastography(SE)combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)for benign and malignant tumors of the parotid gland. Methods With the retrospective analysis of ultrasound and medical record data of 327 patients with parotid gland tumors treated in hospitals from February 2015 to May 2023,the SE and CEUS examination data of patients before treatment were collected.According to the results of biopsy or postoperative histopathological examination, patients were divided into the benign group(263 cases)and the malignant group(64 cases). The gender, age, conventional ultrasound imaging features,as well as SE and CEUS imaging features were compared between the two groups, and the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV),and negative predictive value(NPV)of SE and CEUS alone and in combination for the diagnosis of benign and malignant parotid tumors were analyzed. Results The number, maximum diameter, morphology, edge, echo characteristics, and calcification of lesions between the two groups were compared, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05);The differences in SE scores, edge enhancement clarity, circular enhancement, enhancement size, and enhancement mode between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05);The sensitivity, specificity, and PPV of SE combined with CEUS in diagnosing benign and malignant parotid gland tumors were higher than those of SE and CEUS alone, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusions The conventional ultrasound imaging characteristics,SE and CEUS imaging characteristics of benign and malignant parotid gland tumors are different. Both SE and CEUS have certain diagnostic value for benign and malignant parotid gland tumors, and the combined diagnosis can improve the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and PPV.
