Comparative Study on the Photoperiod-Sensitive Between Maize and Setaria viridis
Photoperiod sensitivity of flowering time is an important consideration in plant cultivation and breeding. Maize and Setaria viridis are short-day grass plants, and they have close genetic relationship. With maize inbred lines CML288, Huangzao4 and Setaria viridis inbred line A10, we studied the photoperiod under short daylight and long daylight, and using reciprocal transfer between long-day(LD) and short-day conditions(SD). For resolving the mechanism of photoperiod-sensitive of maize, and in order to explore the mechanism of photoperiod-sensitive of S. Viridis, the comparison of photoperiod-sensitive between maize and S. Viridis were studied. The results showed that maize and Setaria viridis both had photoperiod-sensitive, vigorous vegetative growth and growth phase were lengthened. The stage of photoperiod-sensitive under long daylight was longer than short daylight. Maize had a photoperi-od-insensitive stage before photoperiod-sensitive. However, Setaria viridis directly produced photoperiod-sensitive from germination. The stage of photoperiod-sensitive in CML288 was longer than Huangzao4.
