Effects of Sand Priming on Seed Germination and Seedling Physiological Characters of Special Corn
Waxy corn, popcorn and sweet corn were used to study the effects of sand priming on seed germination and seedling growth of special corn in this paper. The results indicated that sand priming improved seed vigor of waxy corn and sweet com significantly, and promoted seedling growth of three special com varieties significantly, and didn' t have a significant effect on germinination percentage. Sand priming treatment increased peroxidase(POD) and super-oxide dismutase(SOD) activities and decreased malonicdialdehyde(MDA) content in the seedling of three special com varieties significantly. The effects on seed germination and seedling growth were waxy com > sweet com > pop com, sweet com > pop com > waxy com, respectively. Therefore, the effects of sand priming varied with genotypes. Sand priming can enhance antioxidases activities and seedling adaptability to external enviroment.
