Character Identification and Genetic Linkage Analysis of an Abaxial-Rolled Leaf Maize Mutant
A natural mutant characterized by gradually rolling middle and upper leaf layers after the flare open-ing stage, was collected from the maize population in Guangxi. Its agronomic characteristics, and laminal cell pat-terns were identified and analyzed. An F2∶3 population was constructed by hybridization with maize having no rolled leaves for genetic linkage analysis using molecular markers. The study results indicated that the new natural mutant arl1 exhibits cytological variation features, such as excessive enlargement of laminal bulliform cells. It is regulated by a single recessive gene, which was mapped within 47.1-53.4 of Chromosome 2,with a physical distance of 6.3 Mb.
