Evaluation of Breeding Potential of 8 South American Maize Germplasms in Southwest China
Eight South American germplasm were combined with 6 representative Southwestern inbred lines to produce 48 top-cross hybrids, and a joint identification test was conducted at three points a year to evaluate the breeding potential of eight donor materials. The identified populations[Sh5-1×(Tuxpeno× comiteco)⊗ ⊗]×Sh5-1(L1),(Mobai94×Sh5-1)×Sh5-1(L4),Mobai94 population(L7)have higher GCA effect value in the yield of Southwest China, which has certain breeding potential for increasing the yield of maize in this region.Specifically,L1 has cer-tain potential in reducing water content and ear height at harvest stage, while L4 and L7 have certain potential in im-proving plant type, reducing water content at harvest stage and shortening growth period.
