Effects of Sulfur Fertilizers on Yield And Quality of Spring Maize
The effects of two types of sulfur fertilizer(ammonium sulfate and sulfur)on the yield and quality of spring maize were studied under different input gradients under the background of five consecutive years of field ex-periments with the same inputs of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The results showed that both sulfur fertiliz-ers synergistically enhanced maize yield and quality. With the increase of sulfur application amount, the grain yield, soluble sugar, protein and starch contents of maize increased first and then decreased, the sulfur content showed an increasing trend, and the fat content showed a decreasing trend first and then increased. The application effect trend of the two types of sulfur fertilizer was basically the same.A comprehensive comparison of ammonium sulfate and sulfur showed that the effect of ammonium sulfate was more significant. When the sulfur application rate was 90 kg/ha,the yield of maize with ammonium sulfate and sulfur increased by 19.2%and 14.4%,soluble sugar content by 44.7%and 18.9%,protein content by 7.4%and 8.5%,starch content by 10.2%and 2.3%,and fat content decreased by 26.4%and 50%,respectively.
