Effects of Planting Density on Canopy Characteristics and Yield of Spring Maize in Guizhou
Xianyu1171 and Xinzhongyu801,which are widely planted in Guizhou, were used as materials.A field experiment with six different planting densities was conducted. The results showed that with the increase of planting density, the leaf area index and leaf orientation value of the two varieties increased, while the stem leaf an-gle,light transmittance, net photosynthetic rate, and transpiration rate significantly decreased. The net photosynthet-ic rate and transpiration rate significantly decreased, and the fluorescence parameters resulted in actual photosyn-thetic quantum yield rises first and then descends. The non-photochemical quenching coefficient gradually de-creased after the density of Xianyu1171 increased to 6.0×104 plant/ha.However,there was no significant difference between the densities of Xinzhongyu801.The initial maximum photochemical efficiency did not show significant changes in Xianyu1 171,while Xinzhongyu801 showed a downward trend. The yield increases first and then decreas-es,but the density for Xianyu1 171 to achieve the highest yield of 12 062.0 kg/ha(10.5× 104 plants/ha)was higher than that of Xinzhongyu801.Xianyu1 171 can better synergistically optimize its canopy structure, improve leaf photo-synthetic capacity, promote the accumulation of dry matter after anthesis and its transport and distribution to the grains, and then increase actual ears and grains per ear to ensure higher grain yield under high density, and then in-crease the effective number of ears and grains, and ensure higher yield under high density planting.
