Digital empowerment plays a key role in achieving the high-quality development of China's tourism industry.With a theoretical analysis of the value rebuilding and value creation of tourism industry caused by digital empowerment and an empiri-cal analysis of the panel data of some Chinese cities,this paper examines the mechanisms of cultural empowerment,scenic-area empowerment and ecological empowerment in connection with digital empowerment manifested in the urban tourism perform-ance.The findings are as follows:(1)Digital empowerment significantly improves the urban tourism performance,and the re-sults are still significant when the core explanatory variables have been replaced,the possible extreme values have been elimina-ted,and the estimation methods have been changed.(2)The mechanism-test results show that digital empowerment can pro-mote the improvement of urban tourism performance by stimulating the economic value of cultural resources represented by intan-gible cultural heritage,strengthening the resource-based advantages of scenic spots represented by 5A-level scenic spots,and improving the transformation mode of ecological value represented by ecological efficiency.(3)The study of regional heteroge-neity shows that the central and western regions of China are dominated by cultural and scenic empowerment,while the role of ecological empowerment is more prominent in the eastern and western regions of China.Based on the above findings,the paper proposes to accelerate the digital transformation of the tourism industry,promote the digital dissemination of intangible cultural heritage and the digital transformation of tourist attractions,use digital technology to expand the supply of high-quality ecological products,and give full play to the advantages of the eastern and western regions of China.
