Water Quality Assessment of Xingyun Lake by Using the Individual Number of Planktonic Algae
In recent years, the monitoring of planktonic algae in freshwater lakes in China generally uses the number of cells as the counting unit. However, the existing lake water quality evaluation based on algae data is only applicable to the individual number of algae. For this reason, this study selected Xingyun Lake in Yuxi,Yunnan Province,to carry out lake water quality assessment based on algae individual number to check the consistency with the results of water quality assessment based on chemical indicators, and to compare the advantages and disadvantages between physical and chemical indicators monitoring and algae individual number monitoring, and to explore the necessity and feasibility of carrying out algae individual number monitoring in the future. The conclusion was that the water quality evaluation method based on the individual number of algae could reflect the comprehensive status of the water ecological environment and had its unique value, and the monitoring work investment was less than the monitoring of physical and chemical indicators. However, there were shortcomings such as high requirements for the accomplishment of technical personnel, long training time, and difficulty in quality control. With the improvement of the accomplishment of monitoring personnel and the development of new technologies, these difficulties were expected to be overcome. The monitoring of individual numbers of planktonic algae was still worth carrying out.
