Effects of Temperature on Seed Germination of Abies georgei var.smithii under Different Altitudinal Gradient
The effects of temperature on seed germination of Abies georgei var.smithii under different altitudinal gradient in Shegyla Mountains was studied by setting up 5 kinds of temperature zones (﹤5℃, 5~10℃, 10~15℃, 15~20℃ and 20 ~25℃) . The results showed that the average 1 000 seed weight of Abies georgei var.smithii seed was 7.78 g in Shegyla Mountains , which was smaller than other fir seeds. The trends of seed weight was larger in low altitude ( lower than 4 000 m) and smaller in high altitude ( above 4 000 m) .The suit-able germination temperature for Abies georgei var.smithii seed was 15~20℃.It could not germinate below 5℃. Germination capacity of Abies georgei var.smithii seed was different for different altitudes .The highest seed germi-nation rate was 50 %with an elevation of 3 900 m.With increasing altitude above 3 900 m, the seed germination capacity would be gradually decreasing .
