Flowering Behavior and Phenology of 14 Walnut Varieties
The flowering behavior and phenology of 14 walnut varieties grown in Kunming arboretum were observed continuously from 2011 to 2013 .The results showed that the flowering periods of a majority of walnut varieties did not or merely encounter between male flowers and female ones.Accordingly these walnut varieties needed pollinizer. The period of female flowers blooming of Juglans sigilltata cv.‘Dapao’ and ‘Santai’ , which were main cultivated varieties in Yunnan Province, could mostly match the ones of cv.‘Chandler’, ‘Hartley’ and ‘Zijiao 9’.Then these three varieties could be considered as pollination parents of ‘Dapao’ and ‘Santai’.
