The Influence of Four Different Forest Types on the Growth of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua
A comparative study was conducted to understand the influence of different forest types namely on the growth of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua rhizome propagation seedlings under the canopy of Phyllostachys heterocycla forest, broadleaf forest, Cunninghamia lanceolata forest and Pinus massoniana forest. The results showed that the order of mass growth and rhizome yields of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua under different forest types was Phyllostach-ys heterocycla forest > broadleaf forest >Cunninghamia lanceolata forest >Pinus massoniana forest, in the case of similar site condition, canopy density, planting density and same management. The average survival rate, aver-age diameter, average height, average root total mass ( dry weight) under the canopy of Phyllostachys heterocycla forest were 90. 2%, 0. 60cm, 62. 5cm, and 1 226. 9kg/hm2 respectively, 90. 0%, 0. 55cm, 59. 2cm, and 1 184. 4kg/hm2 respectively under the canopy of broadleaf forest, 88. 7%, 0. 48cm, 53. 1cm, and 1 097. 0 kg/hm2 under the canopy of Cunninghamia lanceolata forest, 85. 2%, 0. 43cm, 48. 9cm, and 993. 4 kg/hm2 under the canopy of Pinus massoniana forest. In general, Phyllostachys heterocycla forest and broadleaf forest are suitable habitat for Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua planting.
