Chloroplast Genome Characteristics of Nine Pennisetum Plants Species
Pennisetum is an annual or perennial herb of Poaceae, and it has good application in feeding, ecological protection and ornamental. To investigate the genetic structure and evolutionary characteristics of the chloroplast ge-nome,the chloroplast genome sequences of 9 Pennisetum plants were obtained, and bioinformatics analysis was car-ried out.The results showed that the chloroplast genomes of Pennisetum nine plants were typical tetrad structures, ranging from 137 929 bp to 138 554 bp.The GC content of the chloroplast genome ranged from 38.6%to 38.7%,with the highest GC content in the IR region(44%-44.1%).There was no significant difference in the chloroplast genome structure, but there was a small difference in the IR/SC junction region. In addition,113 genes were annota-ted,including 78 protein-coding genes,31 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes.A total of 389 SSRs were detected by simple sequence repeat detection, among which the number of single nucleotide repeats was the largest, while the proportion of tandem repeats was the highest in non-simple sequence repeat detection. In Pennisetum species, the variation sites mainly existed in chloroplast LSC and SSC regions, and 5 highly divergent regions were successfully i-dentified that could be used as potential genetic markers of Pennisetum.Based on the phylogenetic tree constructed by chloroplast genome,Pennisetum plants formed two major branches, which clarified the genetic relationship be-tween some species of Pennisetum plants. This study can provide theoretical guiding for the classification and identi-fication,systematic evolution, population genetics and molecular breeding of Pennisetum species.
