A Review:Applications of New Non-destructive Testing Techniques for Forest Seed Vitality Screening and Resource Protection
The efficient screening of forest seed resources is a long-term,scientific,and public welfare strategic need for the country. However, there are few reports on detection technologies tailored to the characteristics of forest seeds. To enhance the quality of forest seed resources, save endangered plants, improve the survival and preservation rates of seedlings, select superior varieties, and protect resource diversity, this study focuses on the vitality screening of forest seeds. It specifically targets emerging spectral imaging technologies based on optical properties, including infrared thermal imaging, multispectral imaging, and near-infrared spectroscopy,as well as non-optical property-based non-destructive testing technologies such as electronic noses and machine vision. The principles behind these technologies are analyzed, and their applicable scenarios and advantages/disadvantages are discussed.Future emer-ging detection technologies for forest seeds should aim at the developmental needs and application scenarios of forest resource seeds, fully utilize the advantages of different technologies and algorithms, and develop towards"multimo-dal,cross-scale"directions,in order to provide technical support for the protection and utilization of China's forest resources.
