Cost-benefit Analysis and Industrial Development Suggestions of Areca-nut Planting in Hainan
As the second largest tropical economic crop in Hainan,areca-nut is one of the main economic sources for farm-ers.Cost-benefit of areca-nut planting is the most critical factor affecting the decisions of farmers planting.The paper in-vestigated the planting and cost-benefit of areca-nut in the top 8 cities and counties in Hainan,the cost-benefit of areca-nut were compared with those of natural rubber and sugarcane.The results showed that the planting cost of areca-nut was lower than that of sugarcane and higher than that of rubber.From the perspective of income,the sales price and net profit of areca-nut is significantly higher than that of rubber and sugarcane.However,there were some problems in areca-nut planting in Hainan,such as the low level of management,difficulty in pest control,public opinion and policy affecting prices,few types of products,low added value of products,and low scale and standardization of areca-nut industry.In response to these problems,the paper formulates a series of countermeasures,including reducing production costs by raising the level of areca-nut planting technology;upgrading the quality and efficiency of areca-nut production by improving the level of green prevention and control such as areca yellow disease,stabilizing the scale of areca-nut cultivation by exploring the use of tobacco and alcohol special products to formulate regulations on the production and sales of areca nuts,boosting the legalization of areca-nuts'identity;improving the added value of areca-nut products by accelerating deep processing and medicinal value devel-opment research and stimulating the scale,standardization and industrialization development of areca-nut planting.
