Leaf Structure and Its Correlation with Powdery Mildew Resistance in Two Rubber Tree Varieties
Hevea brasiliensis Mull.Arg.RRIM600 and GT1 are two important rubber varieties in the natural rubber industry,GT1 has hestrong ability against cold, while RRIM600 has high yield, but the drought resistance and disease resistance are poor.To clarify the leaf structure of these two rubber varieties and their correlation with powdery mildew resistance, using the paraffin section method and the microscopic observation method to observe the leaf anatomical structure of RRIM600 and GT1,The study shows that:The wax content of GT1 is higher than that of RRIM600,and the wax layer of rubber tree forms a barrier to hinder the invasion of pathogenic bacteria. The difference in stomata number, area and density of RRIM600 and GT1 are not obvious, indicating that the stomata of GT1 and RRIM600 are not related to disease resistance.Rubber leaves with thick leaves, thick flesh, loose structure, thick sponge tissue, and thin upper epidermis may be more conducive to the infection of powdery mildew bacteria. There was a certain correlation between the wax content and the powdery mildew resistance of rubber trees, while the tissue structure and stomatal structure of leaves have little influence on the powdery mildew resistance.
