Chinese-funded Enterprises'Philanthropic and Cultural Responsibilities in Southeast Asia and the Perception of China by the Local Employees of Southeast Asian Countries
The implementation of the Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR)by multinational corpo-rations helps shape their images, which will not only influence the perception of the enterprise by the local employees but also lead to the construction of the image of the home country through the gener-alization of this perception. This paper utilizes the data from Overseas Chinese Enter prises and Em-ployees Survey database and focuses on the local employees working in Chinese-funded enterprises across nine Southeast Asian countries as the sample group.Employing a linear regression model, the paper aims to examine the influence of philanthropic and cultural responsibilities within CSR on the attitudes of the local employees towards China. It reveals that simply making charitable donations to local communities cannot significantly enhance the positive perception of China among the local em-ployees,nor do they markedly improve their evaluation of China's influence. To effectively foster fa-vorable views,it is imperative for enterprises to thoroughly comprehend and respect the local religious beliefs and customs. This entails fulfilling their cultural responsibilities, thereby bridging the cultural gap between the involved parties.Only through these measures can the local employees develop a more optimistic perception of China, alongside a better understanding of its positive influence.
