The Current Status and Construction Strategies of International Discourse Power in Chinese Linguistics:Reflection and Reconstruction of Discourse Power from the Perspectives of Sociology of Knowledge and Communication Studies
The construction of international discourse power is a hot topic of concern in recent years,while the relevant linguistic research has some debatable issues in terms of its observation perspectives as well as its research methods and advances.Based on the principles of sociology of knowledge and communication studies,this paper examines the academic community and discourse power,and ar-gues that academic discourse power refers to the influence of a knowledge system in the academic com-munity,whose four major elements include trust,attraction,dependence,and serviceability.Exami-ning the current status of the international academic discourse power in Chinese linguistics from these four dimensions,it concludes that(1)traditional Chinese linguistics is more influential than modern Chinese linguistics,and applied linguistics is more internationally visible than theoretical research;(2)the performance of Chinese linguistics is not satisfactory enough in terms of the breadth of under-standing and researching world languages,the research quality,and the ability to serve the society and academic community.The discourse construction strategy proposed for this purpose integrates two aspects:knowledge production and knowledge dissemination,with the former emphasizing its breadth,depth and characteristics and the latter on its structural,multilingual and multi-channel ap-proaches.The theoretical analysis of discourse power,its analytic dimensions and observation indexes in this paper might be helpful to the study of discourse in other fields.
