Engagement of Non-engagement:Contemporary Strategies of the Art-based Rural Construction in China
Engagement of non-engagement is a contemporary implementation strategy of self-adapta-tion for the art-based rural construction in China,which tries to initiate a dialogue between multiple subjects through the engagement of non-engagement methods such as dialogue,collaboration,inte-gration,symbiosis,and construct a multi-subject linkage so as to make them interact with each other in their shared aesthetic experience,then generate a common will and action,and ultimately reach the realm of"beauty represents itself with diversity and integrity".The hidden kernel of engagement of non-engagement lies in"letting"the marginal experience appear as it is,taking equality as the funda-mental principle,not just the goal.By substantially transforming"artistic engagement"into"aesthet-ic engagement",the construction of the micro-community can be achieved by transforming from sub-jective competition to intersubjectivity through the redistribution of the sensible,realizing the real re-form and reconstruction of the relationships of social life.In this process,a new perception of the cou-ntryside will be created and the dichotomies of city/countryside,center/fringe,and civilization/barba-rism will be dissolved.In the contemporary context of multi-center reconstruction and multi-cultural superposition and flow,this"weak"but tough gesture sends out a sincere appeal to us in its subtlety.
