The Spatiotemporal Transformation and Modernization Advancement of Frontier Governance in the New Era
The transformation of the main social contradictions and the outward development in the new era of China have pushed the frontier into a larger stage of development and a broader space. The spatiotemporal transformation of the frontier has led to changes in its form and the formation of new frontier perspectives. This gives us the opportunity to observe the modernization of border governance by placing traditional fixed and static notions of frontier governance into the process of broader economic exchanges, social interactions, and cultural exchanges and integration across diverse fields and multiple layers of space. In terms of concept, frontier governance in the new era transcends the traditional understanding and narratives of the diachronic dimensions of"ancient"and"present",shifting towards a contemporaneous open perspective of connectivity, linkage, and networking in the world of"native"and"foreign"interactions. It requires understanding the epochal status of border governance in the context of continuous spatiotemporal transformations and adjustments in diverse relationships. In this spatiotemporal transformation, the modernization of frontier governance is re-recognized.Whether it is regionalism,inter-domain,or meta-issues and communalism proposed by the academic research on borderland governance orientation, they all point to the governance content emphasizing the"frontier nature".It is necessary to highlight the characteristics of the frontier itself and the main function in its governance and development, and return to the path of governance according to the characteristics of the frontier under the overall planning of national governance. Therefore, the modernization of frontier governance needs to be approached from five aspects:strengthening temporal thinking, spatial characteristics, external factors, current differences, and process-oriented content to continuously advance the process of modernizing frontier governance.
