A Study on the Performance Space and its Changes of Traditional Chinese Opera in Hokkien Dialect in Singapore
The performance spaces of traditional Chinese opera in the Hokkien dialect in Singapore have undergone a process of gen-eration,inheritance and change.Among them,temples have been preserved from the immigrant era to present days.Places of en-tertainment such as theatres,cinemas and amusement parks flourished for a while and then declined;and modern theatres and com-munity public spaces have been gradually built up after Singapore's independence.On the whole,the traditional Chinese opera per-formance space in Hokkien dialect in Singapore has been transformed from an immigrant living space to a national cultural space.Correspondingly,Singaporean Hokkien opera changed from an immigrant art to a national art,which has had a direct impact on the creation,performance and international exchange activities of Singaporean Hokkien opera.
