Research progress on anti-tumor effect and mechanism of saponins in Chonglou
As a traditional Chinese medicine that clears heat and detoxifies,reduces swelling and pain,and cools the liver and calms the shock,Zhonglou has gradually gained attention in recent years due to its good anti-tumor activity.Zhonglou saponins are the most important anti-tumor active ingredient in Zhonglou.A large amount of scientific research has shown that its main active ingredients,saponins Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅵ,and Ⅶ,are the material basis for anti-tumor activity.The anti-tumor mechanism of these ingredients is mainly through inducing cell apoptosis and autophagy,inhibiting cell growth and proliferation,blocking the proliferation cycle,inhibiting tumor metastasis,inhibiting tumor resistance,enhancing chemotherapy sensitivity,affecting the functional activity of organelles(mitochondria,endoplasmic reticulum),inhibiting tumor angiogenesis,and other pathways to inhibit the growth of various malignant tumor cells.This article summarizes the achievements and mechanisms of action of saponins Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅵ,and Ⅶ from Paris polyphylla in anti-tumor research,providing further ideas for the development and utilization of saponins from Paris polyphylla and their clinical anti-tumor applications.
