Problems and Countermeasures of the English Translation of Public Signs From the Perspective of Eco-Translatology:A Corpus-Based Study of Ten Scenic Areas in Shaoxing
The English translation of public signs has become a hot research topic in the field of applied translation,and its importance is increasingly highlighted.The theory of eco-translatology proves to be the exact one to study the English translation of public signs in a comprehensive way,as it is in line with the complex multidisciplinary characteristics of public signs translation.By taking photos on the spot,the authors collected the translation materials of public signs in the top ten tourist attractions in the City of Shaoxing,and then further analyzed the errors therein from the perspective of the translated texts,translation subjects and translation environment in the context of eco-translatology.Based on the research findings,this paper finally puts forward some countermeasures of the English translation under the framework of"Text-Translator-Environment"trinity,by integrating the"effective"translated text with"collaborative"translation subjects and"harmonious"translation environment,and hopefully it can shed some light on the English translation of public signs.
