This paper focus on the Chinese art history in the English-speaking world,which had been born of the Western art history.It can be roughly divided into three stages:embryonic from in the Late 19th and Early 20th Cen-tury,development after the war,and diverse since the 1980s.Significant breakthrough of methodologies have estab-lished by interpreting Stylistic Analysis,Iconology,Analysis of the context and the Social History of Art.This paper traces the Chinese art history research in the English-speaking World from the 20th century,clarifies its development and lineage,explores the methodology evolution,and focuses on research trends since the beginning of 21st century,Transculturation,Spatial Turn,Global Art History,and Multiculturalism.In analyzing the evolution of methodology,which can be used to shed light on the establishing the language system and innovation of methodologies for the still growing discipline of Chinese art history.
