Labor Narratives and Cultural Representations of Drama Works in the Yan'an Period
During the Yan'an period, the Government of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region indirectly organ-ized and mobilized the military and civilians of the border region by advocating large-scale productive labor. The key-word"labor"frequently appeared in the drama works of this period."Labor",along with drama, intertwined to con-nect the national imagination of military and civilians in the border region.A large number of"labor narrative"drama works were both the initiative response from the drama production organization to central policies of the border region, and a conscious effort by playwright groups to meet the subjective emotional demands of military and civilians in the region.Drama work in Yan'an,as the most typical literary"texts"of the time, present the shaping of the"new peo-ple"image and the generation of"new families"in the border region through cultural representations of labor narra-tives.These works effectively promoted revolutionary enthusiasm among the military and civilians to work in solidarity against Japanese aggression and establish a new revolutionary subject.
