Beheading the Villains and Helping the World:Review of the Majestic Youth
Zhejiang Beijing opera and Kun opera art centre's opera the Majestic Youth dialogues with the classics, seeks a new stage code for the connotation of the classics, and carries forward the humanistic concern of the Kun opera legend. The play reinterprets the story of Li Huiniang's ghostly revenge with Pei Shunqing as the protagonist,high-lighting the ideological, legendary and interesting nature of the work in the interweaving of historical truth and artistic fiction. The fervour and tragedy of youth, and the treachery and arbitrariness of sycophants are fully displayed on stage, full of moral righteousness and the light of humanity. The whole play pays attention to the aesthetic interests of the public,is nice to look at,popular and poetic, and presents a distinctive style of the Zhejiang school.Wang Heng-tao,the main actor, stands out for both acting and martial arts, and is good at opposed characters, which adds glam-our to the play. The creation of opera in the new era has stepped into a diversified pattern, and the multi-dimensional interpretation of opera classics has broadened the boundaries of the creation of opera, and provided the value of refer-ence for the construction of the discourse system of opera in terms of methodology.
