Ritual Performance and Folk Tradition:Interpretation of the Cultural Significance of the Murals and Ancient Opera Houses in the Water Temple of Guangsheng Temple in Hongdong County,Shanxi Province
The opera murals in the water temple of Guangsheng Temple in Hongdong County,Shanxi Province,togeth-er with the square in front of the temple and the ancient opera house,constitute a complete artistic sequence.This is not only the aestheticized presentation of ritual performance,but also the expression of human nature of folk tradition.On the one hand,starting from the overall environment of the image,the paper investigates the interaction between the opera murals and other murals in the temple,the square in front of the temple,and the ancient opera house,showing the ritual cultural gene of praying for good weather through drum music and song.On the other hand,starting from the dynamic factors of opera,this paper combines the symbolic representation in the image with the aesthetic attribute of entertaining people contained in the evolution of Chinese traditional music culture,and probes into the folk artistic character generated by the continuous flow of opera art.
