Unveiling the Internal Logic of Wang Bi's Breakthrough in the Daoist Philosophy
The concept of"Tao"as the central category in the book of Lao Tzu must have an inherent logic of breakthrough achieved through concrete acquisition. In Wang Bi's"Commentary on the Lao Tzu",this hidden clue is implicitly delineated.Starting with the exploration of how to encompass everything,Wang Bi criticizes human society and the natural world, discovering that heaven and earth achieve completeness by em-ulating others. In the process of questioning what they emulate,he arrives at the concept of"the state of blending".This state overcomes the limitations of"form and name"by virtue of its boundlessness.Howev-er,the emphasis of the"state of blending"lies in describing the essence, which cannot fully encompass eve-rything and highlight its foundation. Therefore, naming it as"Tao"becomes an inevitable choice.Conse-quently,the Tao breaks through and becomes the highest philosophical category.
