Employment of Elderly Workers in the Digital Society:Constraints,Variables,and Pathways
With the progression of population aging in China,there is a shortage of labor supply,making it imperative to promote the employment of elderly workers.However,in the face of the digitalization wave,including artificial intelligence,employment skills are becoming increasingly digitized,leaving many elderly workers digitally impoverished.This paper examines the reasons why elderly workers encounter employment challenges in the digital society,which are influenced by both subjective constraints stemming from conserva-tive beliefs and objective constraints from three sets of variables.The measures for promoting the employment of elderly workers in the digital society primarily involve advocating for their enhancement of digital skills,optimizing employment rules of employers,and defining the government's financial support and employment service responsibilities.
