Stephen Owen is a well-known American sinologist whose translations of classical Chinese litera-ture have attracted a great deal of attention from scholars at home and abroad.However,his translations of traditional Chinese drama,especially the translation of The Peach Blossom Fan,have not yet received suffi-cient attention.Therefore,this paper will attempt to make a systematic examination of Stephen Owen's trans-lation of The Peach Blossom Fan from three aspects:translation motives,translation concepts and translation strategies,in order to present a comprehensive picture of his translation of The Peach Blossom Fan as a whole.
