New Youth has published a certain number of social investigation reports,which can be divided in-to three stages according to their publishing motivation and ideological themes. The fourth volume marks the initial stage where the Sociologist Tao Menghe pioneered the "social investigation" column,viewing it as a way to promote social reform. The seventh volume represents the heyday of publishing social investigation re-ports,with the form of presentation and results pattern becoming standardized and increasingly aligning with the labor group in stance and sentiment. The eighth volume is the phase of the fading out of the social investi-gation reports.The New Youth gradually transformed into atheoretical journal of the Communist Party of Chi-na,and the focus on labor issues shifted from investigating living conditions to inspiring class consciousness. Therefore,the publication of social investigations gradually ceased.
