A Preliminary Study of the Rain-praying Culture of Guangnan in the Qing Dynasty under the Perspective of Ethnic Integration
Praying for rain is a traditional cultural behavior,and most of the ethnic cultures in China have a unique culture of praying for rain.The intermingling of different ethnic rain-praying cultures is a vivid case of ethnic cultural intermingling.During Qing Dynasty,Han culture and the local minority cultures had further integrated in Yunnan Guangnan region,located in the Sino-Vietnamese border,with the continuous strengthening of imperial governance.From the level of praying for rain culture,cultural integration was mainly manifested in two aspects.The first aspect is the culture of praying for rain in the Central Plains spreads widely in Guangnan with official rain-praying events and construction of Dragon God Temple.The second aspect is the original local custom of dragon trees worship and the folk stories related to rain-praying were also passed down in the process.Eventually,the local culture of praying for rain in Guangnan and the rain-praying culture that originated in the Central Plains became intertwined and coexisted in this area.
