A Study of Glass's"Portrait Trilogy"from a Postmodern Perspective
The postmodern style of Philip Glass's"Portrait Trilogy"is mainly reflected in the following three aspects:postmodern techniques are combined with traditional dance music to construct the common musical theme motivation of the"Portrait Opera",deconstructing the plot and text, and counter-narrative narration. The formation of the postmodern musical outlook in Glass's operas was due to his rebellion against modernist music and the multiple influences he was exposed to throughout his academic journey. He was also influenced by postmodern drama theory and creation developed by Artaud and Brecht at that time.
