Incorporating"Ode to the World"into"Thoughts of Home"—A new Interpretation of the Poem Colophons of Cottage Among Fathomless Cliffs and Mountains
Cottage Among Fathomless Cliffs and Mountains is linked to Wang Fu's Study Hidden Among Lakes and Mountains in terms of schematic composition, while poems bearing the same title composed by members of the Imperial Academy are in fact"lyrical scrolls"expressing the Ming officials'emotional relationship to both the universe and their hometown. In the political and cultural context of the early Ming dynasty, the nostalgic landscape paintings patronised by scholar-officials reflected the inclusive concept of"loyalty and filial piety"."Ten Views of Yuzhang"is Hu Yan's reconstruction of the scenery of his hometown as a civil official member of the central government elite. The landscape of Yuzhang was further embedded in"Poems of Eight Views",so as to establish the relationship between his hometown and the imperial capital. In the view of the hometown and the landscape of the imperial capital, the artistic expression of the early Ming dynasty officials'political careers and days spent in seclusion all came to be included in the field of imperial power.
