Since the 20th century,research on Wang Yuanqi's"Dragon Vein Theory"has generally followed five approaches,consequently sparking a number of debates.Empirical research on painting theory reveals that the"Dragon Vein Theory"was formed within the context of pictorial composition,and thus holds a central position in Wang Yuanqi's painting theory in both unifying form and achieving an artwork's charm.With the conceptual and formal understanding of"creation"and"aspiration",the"Dragon Vein Theory"has elevated pictorial composition to the status of fundamental principle within the history of Chinese painting theory.
